Westminster School

995 Hopmeadow Street Simsbury, Connecticut 06070 | Grades 9-12, PG, Co-ed | Founded in 1888

Description

As a private, co-educational boarding and day, college-preparatory school for students in grades 9-12 and postgraduates, Westminster School surrounds young people with smart, accomplished and resourceful adults who instill in their students the desire to pursue excellence in everything they do. Students learn to balance grit and grace and are able to expand their opportunities for successful and fulfilling lives.

English, mathematics, language, history, science, and the visual and performing arts have specific requirements for graduation. In choosing advanced courses beyond the required graduation level, it is advantageous to pursue a subject to the highest level possible. A student should attempt, therefore, to extend the study of mathematics through the Sixth Form and to establish the best background in language, history, science, and creative arts as talent and interest permit. Students should ascertain any special requirements of colleges and college programs of their choice.

Student Activities
Signature Programs

No Place for Hate: a student-led climate improving program designed to enhance our school culture and needs.

Diversity Days: All-day programs set aside for dialogue and development on issues surrounding diversity. With student and faculty facilitators, our breakout sessions focus on a range of topics related to introspection and reflection, identity and connection, community and society, and history and the arts.

The Chapel Program: One of Westminster School’s oldest traditions that encompasses the Judeo-Christian tradition while embracing the world’s religions and philosophies. It offers time for reflection as students, faculty and guests share experiences through chapel talks or give musical performances. The program encourages members of the school community to think beyond themselves, to appreciate sacrifice and to be compassionate, sensitive and inclusive

Guest Speakers and Visiting Artist Series: Encourages our school community to engage in presentations related to the intersectionality of self-identities and social groups, the compassionate ways to connect with others to foster an inclusive community, and the powerful impact of words, actions and art in all its manifestations.
